My name is Dong, and this photograph was taken during my first journey to Kuala Lumpur. It captures a simple moment, but for me it represents something much larger: the feeling of stepping beyond the familiar for the first time.

Arriving with open eyes

A new city changes the scale of everything. Streets feel louder, small decisions require more attention, and even an ordinary meal becomes part of the story. Kuala Lumpur gave me that useful sense of being slightly out of place—the kind that makes you observe more carefully.

I remember looking up at the skyline and thinking about how many different lives can unfold in one place. Travel is often described through landmarks, but what stays with me is the atmosphere between them: the movement, the unexpected kindness, and the satisfaction of learning how to navigate a day on my own.

What the trip left behind

The most valuable souvenir was confidence. Going somewhere new did not answer every question, but it made the world feel more reachable. It reminded me that unfamiliar things become familiar one small decision at a time.

This is the first travel story in this journal. I hope it becomes one of many—not simply a list of places, but a record of how each place changed the way I see home, other people, and myself.
